Our Journey Back to Real Food

Mule Creek Ranch sits on 230 acres just outside Byron, Georgia—land that’s been farmed for generations. Like much of modern agriculture, it was managed with heavy chemicals and conventional practices. In the early days, we didn’t know any better—and we followed the same playbook.

But over time, we saw what it was costing. The soil was tired. The grass didn’t bounce back. And the more we learned, the more we knew we had to change.

We’re the Bump family, and this ranch is our response to everything we’ve seen unravel in the food system—on this land, and far beyond it.

It started with Robert Bump—'Pops' to us—who founded the ranch in 2013 with a simple belief: food should come from people, not factories. He laid the foundation, and we’ve built on it with intention.

Years later, after working in commercial food and beverage around the world, we—Chris and Ashlee—saw the other side.

As a craft beer brewmaster and a pastry chef, we watched food become a product—processed, relabeled, and stripped of its origin.

Meat was the worst of it. And once we became parents, we couldn’t ignore the disconnect.

We knew what we were feeding our kids—but not where it came from, or how it was raised. That uncertainty sent us home.

Back to Georgia. Back to this land. Back to a way of farming that works with nature, not against it.

Today, we raise beef on pasture using regenerative practices. No hormones. No feedlots. No shortcuts. Just animals raised the right way, on land that’s healing year after year—for families who want more than just meat. They want to know the story behind it.

In late 2023, Robert’s brother—our Uncle Keith—joined the Mule Creek Ranch team to help expand our reach and connect with more families across the Southeast.

Based just outside Charleston, South Carolina, Keith brings the same commitment to honesty, quality, and long-term relationships that define everything we do here in Georgia.
